A Winter Storm Warning is posted for all of Western New York from 7 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday.  The National Weather Service said to expect heavy snow with accumulations of 8 to 14 inches across the region.

Even in harsh winter weather, people are still flocking to Niagara Falls to see one of America’s natural wonders. Before sub-zero temperatures set in, WBFO’s Avery Schneider stopped by the American side to find out who was looking at the not-quite-frozen falls.

Weather conditions cause partial I-90 closure

A lake effect snow warning remains in affect until 7 p.m. Sunday for Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattauraugus counties. A commercial traffic ban has been placed on the I-90 in both directions between Lackawanna and the Pennsylvania state line.

As Buffalo braces for its next dose of snow following the city’s first major lake effect storm, officials say plows are ready and traffic conditions should be better, compared to Wednesday afternoon’s gridlock.


Round two of our late season winter weather arrives late Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service has posted another winter weather advisory for all of Western New York from 5:00 Sunday afternoon until 2:00 Monday afternoon.

With temperatures expected to rise into the mid-30s this weekend, and into the 40s next week, highway departments across Western New York are getting ahead of possible flooding from melting snow.

After another night of bitter cold temperatures and sub-zero wind chills, milder temperatures will arrive Saturday.

This Thanksgiving holiday has been a snowy and cold one.  Not since the Thanksgiving week storm of 2000 have we had to deal with this kind of weather.  But the holiday weekend will end up more seasonable with temperatures in the upper 30s by Sunday under cloudy skies.

A Lake Effect snow warning for northern Erie and Niagara Counties has been extended until 1 a.m. Sunday.
